John W. Gilmore Obituary

John W. Gilmore, Jr., 98 of New Castle passed away the evening of July 9, 2020 at his residence.


Born on November 13, 1921 in New Castle he was the son of the late John W. Gilmore, Sr. and Nina Anderson Gilmore.


On August 11, 1983 he married his beloved wife, the former Barbara Jean Everly. She survives at home.


John had worked as a machine operator for the Pennsylvania Rail Road.


He had served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II in the Asian-Pacific Theatre.


John was a member of the New Castle American Legion, Post 343, a 33 Degree Master Mason with Alman Lodge #63 F & AM, and a member of the New Castle Consistory. John was the former Fire Chief for Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department, and auxiliary policeman for New Castle and the former Chaplain of the Lawrence County jail.


In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Charles Burk (Billie Jo), Albert Hohn (Lisa), Barry Hohn (Dorotha Monfore-Hohn), Timothy Hohn (Phoebe) and Robert Everly, his brother-in-law, Raymond Everly, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Gilmore and sister, Alice Fears.


Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 1:30pm at St. Paul Baptist Church, 616 W. North St., New Castle The family will receive friends at the church following the funeral services.


Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home & Crematory, 941 South Mill St.
