John Bakuhn

<p>John Bakuhn, loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, born October 8, 1932, passed away peacefully October 12, 2019 at the age of 87. </p><p><br></p><p>He was preceded in death by his parents, Olga and Afanazy (Mike) Bakuhn, and two siblings, Alice (Boron) and Jane (Wasilewski).</p><p><br></p><p>He graduated from New Castle High School in 1950, as the class Salutatorian, and later from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in metallurgical engineering and chemistry.</p><p><br></p><p>John served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve as a First Lieutenant, and in 1956 was awarded Outstanding Officer of the Year.</p><p><br></p><p>He was responsible for research at Westinghouse Electric, where he designed magnets and created various patents for magnetism and electrical steel. He later worked as a metallurgist at J&amp;L, and in technical sales at LTV, and Republic Steel Companies. He especially enjoyed his involvement in a project with the Department of Energy in the 70’s to develop electric cars.</p><p><br></p><p>John was an avid reader, always learning and sharing his knowledge of many subjects, particularly the U.S. wars. He also enjoyed reading faith-based books and studying Bibles at the JC library.</p><p><br></p><p>John is survived by his wife Joanne of sixty-six years, two sons and three grandchildren. Jeff (Beth) of New Castle, Pa., grandson, Joshua of Canfield, Oh., John (Aixa) of Cuyahoga Falls, Oh., granddaughters, Natasha, and Anastasia.</p><p><br></p><p>Per John’s request the services were private, and were concluded at St. Elias Church officiated by Father Kevin Long. </p><p><br></p><p>Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
