Paul DeRico

<p>Paul DeRico, 81, of Butler Veterans Home; formerly of East Side, New Castle, PA died the evening of March 25, 2008 at Butler Veterans Hospital. He was born November 7, 1926 in New Castle, PA and was the son of the late Joseph &amp; Mary Straw D'Errico. He married the former Nancy Elizabeth Emery on January 12, 1963. She preceded him in death November 15, 2004.</p><p><br></p><p>Mr. DeRico retired after a career in the United States Army where he served as a MASH medic and then a medic in the Army. He was a United States Army veteran where he served in both Korea and Vietnam wars as a medic. He earned two purple hearts, two bronze stars and a combat medical badge, a good conduct medal, a national defense service medal and a united nations service medal.</p><p><br></p><p>With his wife, he had a special interest in religion and missions and they served together as missionaries in the US and Europe. He was a member of the New Castle Area Veterans Honor Guard, the AMVETS, and the American Legion Post 343.</p><p><br></p><p>He was a member of the Bethel United Brethren Church.</p><p><br></p><p>Paul is survived by two daughters Ruth Davis &amp; husband Russell of Grand Rapids, MI and Rachael Hahn &amp; husband John of Meadville, PA; two brothers Michael D'Errico of New Castle, PA and Louis DeRico of New Castle, PA; five sisters Helen Ross of New Castle, PA, Stella Natale of New Castle, PA, Jennie Tomeo of Ellwood City, PA, Christina Pascoe of New Castle, PA and Lucy Musolino of New Castle, PA; two grandchildren Pauline R. Cobb and Lauren E. Cobb and two great grandchildren Raquel M. James and E.J. James.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers Patsy DeRico, Joseph DeRico and Carl DeRico and one sister Rachael Heasley.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2008 from 3:00-6:00 PM and Saturday, March 29, 2008 from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Ed &amp; Don DeCarbo Funeral Home &amp; Crematory, Inc., located at 941 S. Mill Street, New Castle, PA. A service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Reverend John Wiseman of Bethel United Brethren Church will officiate.</p><p><br></p><p>Burial will be at Parkside Cemetery.</p><p><br></p><p>Military rites will be provided by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.</p>
