Richard Kalajainen, 92, of New Castle, passed away the morning of August 25, 2017 at his residence. Born on May 7, 1925 in New Castle, he was the son of the late Jack and Emily Kalajainen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, the former Nancy Smith.

Richard was the founder and owner of Kalajainen’s Sport City until his retirement. He attended Calvary Independent Church.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children, Tim (Diane) Kalajainen of New Castle, Jeanine Kalajainen of Florida (wife of deceased son Daniel Kalajainen), and Paul (Ann) Kalajainen; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Aaron Kalajainen and son Rowan Crisci of Florida, Jessica and Bobby Rainey and their children Chloe, Lillie, and Kallie of Tennessee, Steven Kalajainen of Pittsburgh, PA, and Jason Kalajainen of Illinois; and sister, Leslie Thomas of Washington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Nelson, and son, Daniel Kalajainen.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 31, from 4:30pm to 5:30pm at Calvary Independent Church, 424 E Moody Ave. Services will be held Thursday at 5:30pm at the church, officiated by Pastor Chuck Fombelle.

Interment will take place in Castleview Memorial Gardens.
