Samuel Frank Medure Obituary

Samuel Frank Medure, otherwise known as “Gordo, “ of New Castle, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2019.


He was born on October 1, 1933 in Hillsville, PA, the son of the late Sosto and Jennie Medure.


On June 27, 1964, he married his beloved wife, Lillian (Gabriel) who survives at home. Also surviving are their four children, Jeanette (Frank) Bruckner of Pittsburgh, Sam (Jamie) Medure of Clearwater, FL, John (Jamie) Medure of Springdale, PA, Mary (Dennis) Hoerner of New Castle, six grandchildren, Frank Bruckner of Pittsburgh, Allie and Ava Medure of Springdale, PA, Anthony Medure of Clearwater, FL, and Joshua and Benjamin Hoerner of New Castle. Also surviving is his brother Angelo (Barbara) Medure, his sister Frances Dzemyan, sisters-in-law Ann Medure, Donna Joseph, Genevieve Gabriel, and Marlene Gabriel all of New Castle, and many nieces and nephews.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Mary and George Gabriel, James (Ruby) DeMase, Domenic (Vickie) Medure, Joe (Tillie) Medure, Victor (Helen) Medure, Pete (Adeline) Medure, Antonette (John) Thomas, John (Lena) Medure, Anthony Medure, Frank Medure, Charlotte Medure, Steve Dzemyan, Norman Gabriel, and George “Orgie” Joseph.


He was a graduate of New Castle High School class of 1953 where he was a member of the high school football team all three years and he played for the Future A.C. slow pitch softball team.


He served in the U.S. Army from June 1953 to May 1955, including an 18-month tour in Korea, where he received the Korean Services Medal and United Nations Services Medal.


He retired from the US Postal Service in 1989 and later worked with his brothers at Ro-Med Paving and Liberty Market. He was a long time member of the YMCA, where he enjoyed racquetball, swimming, and exercising. He was an avid walker who put in many miles walking around town. He enjoyed watching cooking and sports programs with his family. He was an active member of St. Vitus Church and enjoyed going to 7 AM mass on Sunday mornings. He was most proud of his six grandchildren.


Visitation will be on Wednesday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 South Mill St.


The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. A procession will leave the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vitus Church at 11:00 a.m. Father William Siple will officiate.


Burial will be in the Medure Family Plot at St. Vitus Cemetery.
