James R. Sauer New Holland, Pennsylvania Obituary

James R. Sauer

James R. Sauer, 78, of New Holland, was born July 23, 1942 to the late Walter and Alice (Spickard) Sauer. He passed into the arms of the Lord on March 6, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Ochal Sauer, having 58 wonderful years of marriage. Jim was employed by Bell of Pa., as an engineer, from 1964 to 1990, when he retired. He then became a consultant in the telephone industry traveling to Japan, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Canada, and many locations throughout the United States. For many years Jim was a fire police officer at both Ridge Fire Company and Ludwig’s Corner Fire Company in Chester County. Jim was a believer in Christ all his life and served in several churches. Jim’s passions were sailing and woodworking. He and Jennie sailed the Chesapeake for 25 years and at one point took off for a year of sailing and did the entire east coast from Maine to the Florida Keys. Of their three sailboats the last one was a forty-foot steel hull delivered to their home where Jim took seven years while still employed to completely build the inside of the vessel. His passion for woodworking led him to build two homes, one being a log house and then gutting an 1860 home and completely restoring it in Cape May Court House, NJ. He has built many pieces of furniture for their homes and family members. Jim and Jennie resided in Anchorage, Alaska where they were married while Jim served in the Air Force for four years. Their other places of residence included Limerick, St. Peters, Cape May Court House, NJ, and finally at Garden Spot Village in New Holland. In addition to Jennie, Jim is survived by his brother, W. Edwin Sauer; two nieces, Martha Posey, and Gretchen McHale; three nephews, W. Edwin Sauer, Jr., William Kelly, III, and Daniel Kelly. Preceding him in death is a sister, Joann Cook; and a niece, Ellen Sauer. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the woodshop at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave, New Holland, Pa 17557. To send the family online condolences visit us at www.groffeckenroth.com. Arrangements by Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland.
