Vera Taxin Kaplan, formerly of Reading, Pennsylvania, passed away at her home in Kansas City, Missouri on March 20, 2012. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 28, 1913, an only child of Mary (Rachmell) and Samuel Taxin, and attended Temple University, where she met her future husband, Dr. Bernard Kaplan, and began a long and happy marriage in Reading until his death in 1989. She was a member of Kesher Zion Sisterhood and Hadassah. She was the much loved mother of Lois (Bunni) Copaken and Marjorie (Merry) Prostic, their husbands Paul Copaken and Dr. Edward Prostic, and grandchildren: Keith (Amy ) Copaken, Jon (Shelley) Copaken, James (Ellen) Copaken, Seth (Lisa) Prostic, Laura Prostic, and Michael Lundblad, whose wife Elizabeth Prostic, passed away in 2005. Family was the center of her life, and she will also be missed by twelve great-grandchildren: Evan, Jack, Alexandra, Ellie, William, Caroline, Sawyer, Katherine and Miles Copaken, Lily and Ben Prostic, and Harper Lundblad. Aunt Vera was admired by her first, second and third generation nieces and nephews for her elegance, dignity, love of beauty, and wise advice, which they accepted with the respect due the family matriarch and last surviving spouse of the seven Kaplan siblings. Philadelphia cousins include Charlotte Mann, Lewis (Ruth) Rachmell, Jean Taxin and Rosalind Taxin. A service will be held at 12:30 on Sunday, March 25th, at Henninger Funeral Home, 229 North 5th Street, Reading, followed by interment at Kesher Zion Cemetery, 1051 Philadelphia Avenue in Shillington. Kansas City family and friends will gather for a memorial service at 2705 Verona Road in Mission Hills, Kansas 66208, at seven o'clock on Tuesday, March 27th.
