Elwood J. Pisle

Elwood J. Pisle, 91, life-long resident of Shippensburg, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. He was born on August 25, 1926, in Shippensburg, a son of the late John and Sara Pisle. Elwood was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II, who served in the European Theater, enlisting on November 11, 1944, and honorably discharged on June 28, 1946. Elwood worked as a Supply Clerk at the Letterkenny Army Depot for thirty-nine years, retiring in 1983. He also served for twenty-one years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Elwood attended the Prince Street United Brethren Church and enjoyed going to Sunday School. He was a fifty year member and past master of the Cumberland Valley Lodge #315 F. & A.M.; a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223; a life member of the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168; and a long-time member of the Vigilant Hose Company. Elwood was an avid life-long hunter and a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Louise; his three daughters, Sandy (Clyde) Brown, Susan (Robert) Fickes, and Sally (Brian) Evans; his son Scott (Rebecca) Pisle; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Leon Pisle; two sisters, Catherine Sanders and Martha Swartz; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Elwood was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Garry L. Culler will officiate. Interment, with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council, will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Masonic Rites taking place at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W Post #6168 or the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223.
