Jay Stauffer

Jay R. “Dick” Stauffer, 92, formerly of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Elmcroft of State College Assisted Living Center. Born on April 16, 1925, in Goldsboro, PA, he was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Wenger Stauffer. On June 12, 1948, in Denver, PA, he married Myra J. Bard. Myra passed away on May 17, 2017. Dick was a 1943 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. He was enlisted in the US. Navy, serving during WWII earning the rank of Electrician’s Mate, Second Class before his honorable discharge on January 17, 1946. He received the European Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal for his years of service. Dick attended Duke University, Villanova College, Muhlenberg College, and Franklin-Marshall College earning his accounting degree. Dick worked for RCA for five years. Then he owned and operated his own printing business, Stauffer Printing Co. He retired after 45 years of service. Dick was a tennis enthusiast. He loved to play and watch tennis. He played the game up to the age of 84. He enjoyed all sports but tennis was no doubt his favorite. He was a Phillies fan, Flyers Fan and an Eagles fan. Dick is survived by his two sons; Jay R. Stauffer, Jr and his wife, Dixie, of Julian, PA and Timothy B. Stauffer and his husband, Lamont O’Neal, of Yardley, PA. Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Dana Beth Palmer of Anchorage, AL, and Brian David Stauffer and his wife, Alison, of Julian, PA, and by his three great grandchildren; Drew Palmer, Jack Ryan Stauffer, and Charlie Joseph Stauffer. Along with his parents and wife, Dick was preceded by his only brother, George Stauffer. In accordance with Dick’s wishes, all service will be private. He will be laid to rest in Julian, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, 106 W. Sycamore St. Snow Shoe.
