Margaret J. Granite, 77, of Karthaus, passed away after a brief battle of cancer, on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Mountain Laurel Health Care and Rehab Center in Clearfield. She was surrounded by many family members and loved one at the time of her death. Born on July 22, 1941, in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Matella) Matsko. On November 26, 1960, in Lockport, NY, she married Donald D. Granite, who survives at home. Margaret was a 1959 graduate of Cooper High School. After her children were all grown and through school, she went back to earn her degree in English at Penn State University, graduating in 1996. She was a homemaker. She was of the protestant faith. Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading and working on her own Bible Studies. She loved the Lord and being a child of God. Her religion and faith meant a lot to her. Margaret was very proud of her Slovak heritage. She enjoyed speaking Slovak around home with her family. Along with her husband, Margaret is survived by her five sons; Dennis M Granite (Antoinette Bond) of Runville, Donald E. Granite, Darrell M. Granite, Daniel P. Granite, and Dale J. Granite, all of Karthaus, and one daughter, Darlene Granite, also of Karthaus. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Jessica Tucker, Amanda McGee, Heather Granite, Hannah Granite, Noah Granite, and Trent Granite, one step grandson, Nicholas Barnyak, one great grandchild, Adaline Timko; two brothers, Mike Matsko (Marlene) of Clearfield, and James Matsko (Mary Lou) of Sandy Lake, PA, one half brother, John Kolivosky of Morrisdale; and four sisters; Barbara Baka of Highland Heights, OH, Mary Koshko of Warren MI, Dorothy Kardohely (Fred) of Hyde, PA, and Genevieve Ballock (Roman) of Mechanicsburg, PA. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Duane M. Granite on November 13, 2016, three brothers; Paul, Arthur, and Joseph, Jr, and by one half brother, Edward Kolivosky. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 11am – 12noon at the CMA Church in Karthaus. Funeral services will be at 12noon at the church with Pastor Dan Beeman officiating. Margaret will be laid to rest beside her son, Duane, privately at the Oak Hill Cemetery, in Karthaus Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 106 W.
