Richard Heckman Matter Obituary

Richard Heckman Matter, 80, of State College, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born on July 16, 1936, in Centre Hall, he was the son of the late Garman A. and Renna M. Heckman Matter. Richard was a 1954 graduate of Centre Hall-Potter High School. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ Church in Centre Hall. Richard was enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the 112th air national guard which was activated and sent to Germany because of the Berlin crisis. After his honorable discharge, he went to work in the Quartermaster Department at the Air National Guard in Harrisburg, retiring in 2000. Richard enjoyed both buying and selling antiques. He also enjoyed going to auctions, playing the lottery, and cooking. He was a life member to the State College Elks Lodge 1600. Richard is survived by his brother, Donald E. Matter and his wife, Cleo, of Centre Hall and his best friend, LeRoy Harper of State College. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one brother, Robert K. Matter, and two sisters; Margaret L. Woods and Kathryn M. Shultz. A memorial service will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 11am, at the Trinity United Church of Christ Church, 104 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Centre Hall, with Pastor Dave Downer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ Church, 104 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Centre Hall, PA 16828. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc 228 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA 16828.
