Sylvia Pauline Ranck Obituary

Sylvia Pauline Ranck, 80, of Milton, entered into rest on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 10:10 p.m. at The Williamsport Home, Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, where she had been a resident for the past 11 years. She was born on March 30, 1937, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Felix William and Mary Kathleen (Lagosky) Klock. On April 26, 1958, she was united in marriage to Judge Samuel Charles Ranck, who preceded her in death on July 18, 2010. Judge Ranck retired from the Northumberland County Bench in 2008 after serving 38 years as a judge. Sylvia graduated from Sunbury High School with the Class of 1955, and was the valedictorian of her class. After high school she served for several years as a legal assistant to Attorney Michael Kivko, in Sunbury. After her marriage, Sylvia became a homemaker and mother, and assisted her husband in his law practice. She later became the proprietor of The Victorian House Gift Shop in Milton and Lewisburg, and All Seasons Flower and Bridal Shop in Milton and Danville. Sylvia was a member of the First Baptist Church of Milton where she served as a Sunday School teacher and in other positions for many years. She was active as a volunteer in many charitable and community organizations and was a long-time member of the Milton Garden Club, various women's clubs, and other civic organizations. She was an excellent golfer and an avid Bridge player and enjoyed engaging in those activities with her family and friends. She and her husband were members of the Susquehanna Valley Country Club and the Wynding Brook Golf Club where Sylvia was the Women's Club Champion for a number of years. Sylvia is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Ranck Person, of Cogan Station; by a son, Thomas F. Ranck, of Lewisburg; by a grandson, Samuel J. Person; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale E. Ranck Jr. and Janet L. Ranck, of Milton; and by three nieces and one nephew. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Charles Ranck III on Nov. 23, 2003; and by a brother, Robert William Klock, of Elysburg. Traditional funeral services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sylvia P. Ranck may be made to Cure Alzheimer's Fund, 34 Washington St., Suite 200, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481. The Ranck family is being served by James R. Gotlob, owner-director of the Olley-Gotlob Funeral Home, Sunbury and by James L. Schwartz, funeral director-supervisor of the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc., Centre Hall.
