Bonnie Smart Obituary

Our beloved Bonnie Smart, 58, passed away on August 15, 2017. Bonnie was born August 13, 1959, to Donald and Nancy Papouscheck. She was married to her loving husband Neil for 30 years and was a mother to a wonderful and caring son, Kenneth. Bonnie was also a much-loved sister to Brenda Miles, Gary Papouschek, Lynn Papouschek-Wrzesinski and Doug Papouschek as well as a devoted family member and treasured friend to many others. Bonnie was educated at Archbishop Ryan High School and La Salle College both in Philadelphia. She graduated from La Salle with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1981. In addition to her many other talents she was also an amazing athlete particularly in cheerleading, where she performed as the illustrious Ryan Ragdoll. She also thrilled and entertained many family, friends and acquaintances over the years with her unique party piece, her famous no handed cartwheels! Bonnie was perhaps at her best though as the ‘Queen of Aerobics’ where all around her would marvel at her high energy high octane routines, this girl could fly! After graduating college Bonnie pursued a successful teaching career firstly at Maternity BVM in Philadelphia and then at St. Albert the Great Catholic School in Huntingdon Valley. Bonnie was an accomplished educator much loved by her students, respected and admired by her colleagues. It was a great loss to the world of teaching when she moved on to try many and varied other pursuits, including soccer administrator, jewelry salesperson, house cleaner, events planner and fundraiser, she excelled at all. Her ‘cheerleading’ personality resonated in her personal life. Her outgoing and positive spirit touched the hearts of so many people, friends and strangers alike. She was truly a magnetic and alluring individual, once you met Bonnie you would never forget her, and always for good and positive reasons! She was also much travelled; her greatest travel adventure was living in England for 9 months when she first met her husband Neil. Bonnie was never happier than when she was helping others, she gave her time freely for every worthy cause. One illustration of such selfless dedication was Bonnie’s 2013 nomination for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Man-Woman of the Year award. As a participant in this prestigious and worthy program Bonnie organized a variety of fundraising activities bringing whole communities together and generating close to $20,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Bonnie’s generosity and strength of spirit will forever resonate, she is our angel. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Bonnie’s life at 2:00 pm, Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington. The family will receive friends, Friday, at the funeral home from 12:30pm to 1:45pm.
