Dennis Malone Obituary

Dennis Patrick Malone was a charmer, a snappy man of style and a rascal. He died in his home on May 12, 2016 in the company of his three children, Darren, Mark and Laura. Dennis was born in New York, NY to Elsie Churchill Malone and Joseph Patrick Malone in 1940. He believed this occasion should be adequately celebrated on the exact date of February 26, like Valentines Day and Christmas. Please do not suggest that it might be more convenient to have his birthday dinner on Friday or Saturday. If February 26 falls on a Tuesday then Tuesday is when we party. Dennis spent his childhood flirting with girls, playing baseball and looking for mischief on the happy streets of Howard Beach in Queens. He was a true son of the 1950s, buying 45’s, drinking egg creams and driving to Philadelphia to dance on American Bandstand. Dennis spent a lifetime traveling. He traveled with the Navy, traveled for work and traveled for pleasure. He spent years working his way across Europe, South America and Australia. Wherever it was he roamed, Dennis had adventures big and small. Dennis loved lobster and liverwurst, Maui and Martha’s Vineyard, Buddy Holly and Bagpipes. He loved a long drive on winding roads, roof down, blaring Ravel’s Bolero. He was easily inspired to dance at weddings, in the kitchen or walking the streets of Chinatown. He was keen to drive around Road Closed signs, liked to take his young children night skating on questionably thin ice and enjoyed “collecting” very large rocks from State Parks. He hated chicken. Dennis Patrick John Joseph Malone gained the deep adoration of many while his ability to rouse ones heartiest frustration was legendary. He was salty and sweet and was visited the day before his death by his childhood best friends. Having known Dennis and all of his complex and endearing ways for 70 years, these old pals drove three hours to see him one last time. They gathered around him, remembering his vibrant personality and laughing at his many shenanigans. We should all be so lucky. Dennis’ three children, though fortunate to survive some of their families adventures, are blessed to have inherited his contrarian points of view, his love of music, his appreciation for beauty and his blue eyes. His grandchildren, Quinn, Lucas, Riley, Henry, Will and Dylan will remember the way he was often the biggest kid of all. His family and friends will miss his feisty temperament, his devilish grin, his goofy sense of humor and his rebellious spirit. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to HelpHOPELive www.helphopelive.org or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund www.jdrf.org Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Dennis’ life on Saturday, June 11 at 5:30 pm at the River View Room in Washington Crossing’s Visitor Center 1112 River Road Washington Crossing, PA 18977.
