George Carter Pierce, 77, died Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in Andalusia, Pennsylvania. Carter is survived by his wife of 51 years, Fran, his son David, and many close friends and relatives. Carter was born in Wheeling, West Virginia to the late George and Mary Pierce. He graduated from Charleston High School and attended West Virginia University where he was an active member of The Newman Club. He received a Bachelor’s degree in 1961 and a Master’s degree in 1962 in political science from West Virginia University. He received his Juris Doctor from Delaware Law School in 1975 and was a member of the Pennsylvania Bar since 1977. Carter was an Associate Professor of Law and Political Science at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science (now known as Philadelphia University) from 1967 to 2014. Prior to his work at Philadelphia University, he taught at Temple University Community College, Bishop Neumann High School, and Bishop Shanahan High School. Carter loved life and thoroughly enjoyed teaching, traveling, and time spent with family. Since retiring in 2014, he regarded every day as a new adventure, whether walking the towpath in New Hope, Pennsylvania, strolling the beach in Sea Girt, New Jersey, or exploring the trails in his beloved Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He was committed to advancing human rights and preserving the environment. Carter’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, 10:30am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Doylestown. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesday February 16, 2016, at the Shelly Funeral Home 1460 Easton Rd., Warrington, PA., and on Wednesday at the Church from 9:30am until the time of Mass.
