Robert Bell Obituary

Robert Bell, Sr. went from one life to the next with his loving family by his side on October 20, 2014 at the Doylestown Hospital. He was 68. Bob was the loving and devoted husband of Vivian Bell. They shared 48 years together as best friends. Born in Chestnut Hill, Bob was a son of the late William Sr. and Dorothy Bell. Bob had been employed with Hatboro Concrete Block Company from 1968 until 2000 and for the past 15 years, he has been employed with the Warrington Township Public Works Department. He loved working and was the strongest man alive; he was affectionately nicknamed “Kong” by his coworkers, whom he enjoyed working with every day. If a bolt was on so tight no one could get it off, it was known to all as being “Bob-tight”. An avid car enthusiast, Bob loved his 1940 Ford Street Rod. He was thrilled to be a member of the Road Angels of Doylestown and enjoyed attending car shows and showing off his vibrant orange Street Rod. If you were looking for him, chances are you could find him in his garage keeping it shiny. He was also a lifetime member of the Warrington Fire Company, becoming a Junior Fireman at the age of 13. Over the years, he was a mentor to many firefighters. He was also a member of the Doylestown Moose Lodge, the Keystone State Fire Chief’s Association, and the National Street Rod Association. He loved his trucks, too, and you could tell it was Bob behind the wheel if there was a sharp pin-striping job and Elvis crooning from the speakers. If you were in need, he would be quick to help. Bob thoroughly enjoyed helping others. A lover of life and all that it has to offer, especially the outdoors, Bob really loved laughing and joking. He had a wicked sense of humor. If something funny happened, Bob picked up on it right away and with a sly smile and a wink from his bright blue eyes, you knew he was always in on the joke. Bob never took things too seriously and really believed there was nothing impossible and no problem too large it couldn't be tackled. In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by 2 sons, Robert Bell, Jr. and Michael Bell (Catherine), 3 grandchildren, Brendan, Allison and Pippa and two brothers, William Bell, Jr. (Rose Marie) and Charles Bell (Evelyn). He loved and took pride in being a husband, a brother, a father and a grandfather. He enjoyed vacations with his family, and loved spending time in two of his favorite places: Long Beach Island, NJ and Disney World. His favorite character was Goofy, which was fitting. He loved his pets, and joins many cats and his guy, Diesel, over the rainbow bridge. The family will receive friends 6-8:00 pm Monday, October 27, 2014 and Tuesday, 10-11:00 am followed by his funeral service at 11:00 at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington. Interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Doylestown Road Angels, P.O. Box 12 • Plumsteadville, PA 18949, the Warrington Fire Co., PO Box 748, Warrington, PA 18976 or to Warrington Cares, c/o Warrington Township, 852 Easton Road, Warrington, PA 18976. “The smallest sprout shows there is really no death, And if ever there was it led forward life, and does not wait at the end to arrest it, And ceas’d the moment life appear’d All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses, And to die is different from what anyone supposed, and luckier…. I depart as air, I shake my white locks at the runaway sun, I effuse my flesh in eddies, and drift it in lacy jags. I bequeath myself to the dirt to grow from the grass I love, If you want me again look for me under your boot-soles…. Failing to fetch me at first keep encouraged, Missing me one place search another, I stop somewhere waiting for you.” - Walt Whitman To send condolences to the family, please visit the funeral home website below.
