Gary Alan Leach

GARY LEACH 9 JULY 1948-22 APRIL 2020 Gary Alan Leach was born 9 July 1948 to Charles E. Leach and Violet (Dumas) Leach in Providence, RI. He passed away on 22 April 2020 at the Oakland Grove Healthcare Center in Woonsocket, RI after suffering from the corona virus. Gary grew up in Cranston, RI living in the Meshanticut Lake area and in western Cranston. As a youngster he loved the fact he was around water. Both the lake in Meshanticut and the old reservoir in western Cranston became places of enjoyment for Gary and his brothers (fishing, swimming, and just getting plain wet). Gary attended Meshanticut Park Elementary, Lippitt Hill Elementary, Oaklawn Elementary, and Cranston West (Jr. and Sr.) High. In high school Gary was active doing plays under the direction of Don Babbitt. His favorite was Anne Frank. He and his family spent summers vacationing for a week or two in Point Judith and Sandwich, MA. (Cape Cod). He was a member of the Gee Whizzers 4-H club with his brother Charlie. The club was led by Richard and Juanita Gee. He became a very good chess player and as a member of the RI Chess League he could be found playing in tournaments in the Providence public library and Pawtucket public library. Gary would also travel out of state to play in important tournaments. He was also a pretty good duck pin bowler and bowled in several leagues in both Cranston & Johnston, RI. His jobs included the old California Artificial Flower Company (CalArt) and several jewelry companies located in Providence. Gary had a short stint in the Navy in 1967 when he joined with his cousin Ronnie in the buddy program. He was married, a short time, to Karen Wilkerson. In later years Gary developed some physical problems (heart surgery) and this slowed his activity level quite a bit. One thing led to another and he was ultimately admitted to the Oakland Grove Healthcare Facility in Woonsocket, RI in 2016. There he spent his last 4 years with his roommate Dennis. Gary passed away on the 22nd of April due to complications from the corona virus. He is survived by his three brothers, Charlie (Deb) Leach of Zion Crossroads, Virginia, Steven of Rehobeth, Massachusetts, and Geoffrey (Michelle) of Farmington, New Mexico.
