William Francis Silvia

William F. Silvia of Warren, Rhode Island died on May 11, 2020 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol, Rhode Island. He was 87 years old. He was born in Newport, RI and was the son of the late Manuel F. Silvia and Emily M. Silvia (Bettencourt). William is survived by his wife of 56 years, Violet Silvia; and his daughter, Elaine Maholchic and her husband, Mark, of upstate New York. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Wrobleski of Cape Coral, Florida and was preceded in death by his brother, John Silvia of Fall River, MA and his sister, Laura Saunders of Franklin, NC. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Bill was raised in Fall River, MA and graduated from Durfee High School in 1951 and later from Syracuse University in 1967. Bill was a member of the Swansea Country Club in Swansea, MA and the Portuguese-American Club in Warren, RI. He was a Korean and Viet Nam War veteran - serving with the United States Marine Corp and the United States Air Force. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1951 and retired from the United States Air Force in 1974. After retiring from the Air Force, Bill worked for the United States Department of Labor as a Wage and Hour Investigator, retiring in 1992. Bill was an avid reader with a keen interest in history, particularly the history of the American Civil War. Donations in William Silvia’s memory can be made to Doctors Without Borders USA, P.O.
