Lois Terranova, a longtime resident of Dunns Corners area, died peacefully in her home Wednesday the 27th of September. Born in 1936 in Westerly, she was the daughter of the late Roy Gavitt and Doris Gavitt Burdick. Lois was a graduate from Westerly High School. She received an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from CCRI in 1980, a banking degree in Internal Auditing in 1984, and a Bachelor’s degree from Bryant College in 1990. Her first job was for the Westerly Telephone Company. Lois worked at the Washington Trust Company for thirty years. During that time she was a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, RI Bankers Assoc., and Certified Internal Auditors Assoc. Lois retired as VP Internal Audit, CFE in 1998. A large part of Lois’ life was being an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Alton. She was part of the Homework Club where she would welcome children coming from school, play games and help them with homework. She prepared countless backpacks for school children in need and was available for anyone who needed help. Lois was an avid traveler throughout the US and abroad. Always on the go and helping others was her life story. Lois was a loving mother and doting grandmother who will be sadly missed, leaving behind two sons, Andy and Tim, and daughter-in-law Eileen. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Mark, Tim, Heather, Erica and Ben; a sister Joan Carr; a cousin Carol Potter; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to family she will be sadly missed by her “girls” who cared for her daily until the end. She will forever remain in our hearts. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday at 11am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 322 Church St., Alton, RI. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, PO Box 33, Wood River Jct., RI 02894 in Lois’ memory.
