Maria Carreira

Maria A. (Pedroso) Carreira, 77, of Charlestown, RI and formerly of Connecticut, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017. She was the wife of the late Fernando Carreira who preceded her in death on September 30, 2013. Born in Alvados, Portugal, she was a daughter of the late Gaudencio and Alice Pedroso. Maria worked as a cashier at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the St. James Chapel in Charlestown, RI and enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting and spending time with her family. Maria was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, with a beautiful smile; she will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind her daughter Alice M. Hickey and husband Jay of Granby, CT; two siblings, Manuel Pedroso of Florida and Irene Walsh of E. Hartford, CT; two grandchildren, Ashley and John Patrick; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Eileen Jacques. Visiting hours will be held at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 5-7pm. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 7pm in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
