Robert Eugene Dionne, Sr., 84, of Westerly passed away on Jan. 18, 2019. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Burdick) Dionne. He was born in Westerly to the late Theodore and Rita Dionne. Robert will be greatly missed by his children, Judith Godfrey, Robert Dionne Jr., Lawrence Godfrey, and Kristen Lupica. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and his brother, Theodore Dionne. Robert was a man of many trades. After he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class in the Army National Guard he started working for CB Cottrell & Sons, which became Harris Graphics. He worked as an assembly mechanic until the 60s then became a Union Rep and later an Organizer for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Union Local 627. Robert returned to Harris as a CNC maintenance mechanic and stayed in that position until they closed in 1989. He then took over maintenance at the Westerly Yacht Club until he retired. Robert enjoyed spending time at the Westerly Yacht Club with friends telling stories. In his younger days he could be found on his boat fishing every chance he had. Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon on Thursday at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Burial with Full Military Honors will immediately follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Westerly Yacht Club in Bob's memory.
