John Gartland

GARTLAND, John J., III "Jack", 84,passed peacefully on March 28th, 2015 at St. Antoine Residence. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Lucier, he was a loving father to Charlene Turner (Lee) of Texas, Patricia Lowman (Michael) of Narragansett, Karen Lind and Kelly Gartland of Woonsocket; a cherished grandfather to Caitlyn Lifschitz, Dustin Lowman, Kelsey Amlaw, Micah, Hannah, and Samuel Gregus, Paige Gouin, and Jackson and Parker Gartland; a special great-grandfather to four, soon to be six; and a dear brother to Evelyn Zifcak, Sandra Abrajano, and the late Edward "Ted" Gartland (Chief, NFD,ret.), Kathryn Allaire, and Dorothy Orlowsky. Born in the family home, the historic Western Hotel in Nasonville to the late John J. and Alice (Whittaker) Gartland, he was a proud veteran (USAF flight instructor) and a career electrician, retiring after more than 30 years with GE. Jack was an avid golfer, Red Sox and Patriots fan and critic, and cribbage player. Gregarious and pragmatic, he will be fondly remembered for his commitment to family, sense of humor, and endearing lament that "he'd rather be rich than so damn good looking". Relatives and friends are invited to Jack's funeral services on SATURDAY, APRIL 11th BEGINNING WITH VIEWING FROM 8:30 T0 9:30 A.M. at the BERARDUCCI FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CARE CENTER, 185 Spring St., Woonsocket, followed by visitation at 10:15 am. at St. Theresa's Church, 35 Dion Drive, Nasonville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. concluding with the bestowal of military honors on the Church plaza.
