Raymond L. Laforest Obituary

Laforest, Raymond L., 80, of Woonsocket passed away February 20th, at the St. Antoine Nursing Home in North Smithfield, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Walter and Marie-Anne (Rainville) Laforest. He is survived by his adoring wife Carol (Morin) Laforest. Raymond was predeceased by his son Robert Laforest and is survived by his beautiful daughter Deanna Laforest and his devoted son Raymond Laforest Jr.,all of Woonsocket. He is also survived his sons Earl McElroy of Mn., and Gary McElroy of Az. He is survived by one sister, Linda Gouin and was predeceased by his brothers Robert Laforest, Joseph Laforest, Richard Laforest and his sisters, Lucille Perry, Claire Couture and Helen Therrien. Raymond is survived by his loving grandchildren Tayla Ladd and Kelsie Laforest all by whom he will be sorely missed. Raymond was affectionately known as” Pop” throughout the city of Woonsocket. Pop loved and had a wonderful knack for fishing. As a boy he would take the occasional day off from school just to go fishing. Pop never ‘tried’ to make friends it always came very naturally to him. Whoever Pop met, he had a smile and only kind words to share. The one place on earth he was most happy was his garage. On a nice day, Pop would sit at the mouth of his garage and watch to see who would be driving by. Sure enough, his friends and family would come on a daily basis to sit with Pop to chat for hours. Everyone would stop by to see the loving, happy man just sitting in his garage. Another love in his life were tools, old, new, rusty or broken it didn't matter he loved them all. Just point him in the direction of a yard sale that just may have some tools and he was there. Sometimes he was lucky enough to find one he would bring back to his most wonderful place in the world," his garage". Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation for Raymond in the Berarducci Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center at 185 Spring St Woonsocket Sunday evening 4-7pm. Funeral services will be Monday morning at 9:45 at the funeral home with a procession to St Jean the Baptist Cemetery 310 Wrentham Rd, Bellingham, Ma.
