Winifred Kiendra Woonsocket, Rhode Island Obituary

Winifred Kiendra

Winifred Eleanor Lily (Witty) Kiendra passed peacefully at her home on July 17th after a brief period of declining health. She was the beloved wife for 65 years to the late Edward V. Kiendra and the loving mother of Rossana (husband, Bruce) Botelho, Alexander (wife, Laura) Kiendra, all of Warwick, RI, and Sofia Kiendra (life partner, Patricia Caldarone), of Providence, RI. She will also be missed by her 5 grandchildren and great-grandson. Born in London, England, she was the only child of the late Gilbert and Marjorie Witty. Bred a 'Brit', her Depression Era fabric was a beautiful tapestry of hard work, discipline, simple living, commitment to family, and quiet appreciation. She came to the USA with her husband and family in 1966 and shortly thereafter settled into her comfortable Providence home where she has thoroughly enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest for almost 50 years. She was employed in the jewelry industry, retiring from Danecraft several years ago. Well known in her Washington Park/Edgewood neighborhood and on her favorite RIPTA bus routes, she endeared and befriended herself to many in all walks of life. Although she kept to her own time schedule, she was far more a participant in life than an observer. She took great pride in her appearance, her home, and her heritage. Always "matter-of-fact", she naturally practiced her English etiquette; proper dress, especially at Sunday dinners, was a must! She will, however, be remembered more for her rigid routines than for her culinary creations! Fiercely independent, always tanned and feisty, a "fashionista", and a friend to all, Winnie was a unique blend of spunk and elegance. Her passions were flowers - real and plastic; beaches - Oakland and Quaddick Pond; visiting her favorite neighborhood stomps - O'Rourkes and Acores (now What Cheer); and spending time with her canine companions - Sheba and Spanky. Services for Winifred, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited, will be held on Saturday, August 1st 10:30 am at Swan Point Chapel, 585 Blackstone Blvd. in Providence. Memorial contributions to the Providence Animal Rescue League, 34 Elbow Street, Providence, RI 02903, or to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the caring staff at Berarducci Funeral and Cremation Care Center. R.I.P., Winnie.
