Alfred Bumgarner

Titusville, FL -- Alfred L. Bumgarner, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, born March 24. 1929 was taken to his eternal home on May 12, 2013. Al was a former Systems Analyst for McDonald Douglas/Boeing Co. at Kennedy Space Center in Florida for 35 years. During his free time, he enjoyed fishing, dancing, golfing and tennis. He officiated youth sports as well as high school and college basketball/football for over 25 years. Al graduated from ASU where he played football and tennis and was a member of the “Duggan’s Boys”. He was a charter member of Park Ave. Baptist Church and Guy Boyd’s Memorial Sunday School Class. Al was a Korean War veteran, having served four years in the Air Force in Alaska. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Julia (Betty Wylie); daughter, Kerry Saunders of Cary, NC; son, Mark and wife Jami of Shelby, NC; and grandchildren, Aubrey Simmons (Ross), Lindsey Baker (James), Cameron Peterson (Casey), Chelsey Saunders and Jonas Bumgarner. He is also survived by brothers Ken Bumgarner of Chester, SC, Bobby Bumgarner of Greenwood. IND, and Michael Bumgarner of Fresno, CA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Gordon Mortuary in Blacksburg, SC. The family will receive friends from 2 -3 PM with the service to follow at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions my be made to ASU Foundation/Yosef Club (Student Athletic Scholarships), Appalachian State University, PO Box 32025, Boone, NC 28608; Park Ave. Baptist Children’s Programs, 2600 Park Ave., Titusville, FL 32780 or Dr. Jey Pilai Center for Hospice Care, 661 Eyster Blvd, Rockledge, FL 32955.
