Betty Benton Obituary

Gaffney -- Betty Jo Keller Benton, 79, took her eternal path to be with her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2017 at the home of her beloved daughter, surrounded by those she loved. Born in Gaffney to the late Herbert and Eva Benton Keller, she was one of six. She was widowed at a young age by James "Chub" Benton, but later reunited with a special man, Vernon "Pinto" Scates. Betty Jo was a dedicated and life-long hard worker who retired from Hamricks Mills after 25+ years, then from Wal-Mart after 13 years, and was a member of Beech Street Presbyterian Church. Betty Jo was a faithful, caring, and loving sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She touched the lives of many people she came in contact with. Betty Jo was a unique woman that always spoke her mind and stuck to her beliefs. Dedicated to her work and family, Betty Jo will always be remembered for the love, morals, and beliefs she instilled in those she loved and cared for. Surviving Mrs. Benton are one daughter, Bobbie Jo Benton Bolin and husband, Wayne, of the home; two sisters, Annie Louise Smith and Mary Laughlin, both of Gaffney; one sister-in-law, Minnie Lou Keller, of Gaffney; five grandchildren, Heather Pennington and husband, Edward, Brandon Bolin and girlfriend, Meagan Hullett, Dustin Bolin and girlfriend, Tayler Moss, and Robert and Aliayah Myers; and three great-grandchildren, Paris "Sydnee" Pennington, Bentley Bolin, and Harper Bolin. She was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Jabbie Rains Pennington; three brothers, Fred, James, and William Keller, and a sister, Ina Byars. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26th, 2017, from 10:00 am - 10:00 pm at Bobbie Jo Benton Bolin's Residence, 417 Gaffney Ferry Road, Gaffney, SC 29340. Graveside services will be held Friday, January 27th, 2017, at 2:00 pm at Frederick Memorial Gardens with Rev. Sydney Weaver officiating. Edward Pennington, Brandon Bolin, Dustin Bolin, Bradley Crow, Isaiah Owens, and Immanuel Owensby will serve as pallbearers. Roberty Myers will serve as an honorary pallbearer. Although a memorial has been placed at her former residence, 202 Van Buren Street in Gaffney, the family will be at her daughter's residence, 417 Gaffney Ferry Road in Gaffney. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the nurses of Interim Hospice for the care they provided. The Book of Memories is available at www.gordonmortuary.com.
