Betty Champion Obituary

Blacksburg -- Betty Hampton Champion, 81, of 623 Cherokee Falls Road, passed away Wednesday, February 4th, 2015, at her residence. Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Loyd Champion and the daughter of the late John Hampton and Lula Moss Hampton. Mrs. Champion retired as a housewife and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Champion is survived by one son, Michael Champion and spouse, Hollie, of Kings Mountain, NC; two daughters, Donna Chang of Blacksburg and Debbie Ziegler and spouse, Terry, of Gaffney; seven grandchildren, Brandon Champion, Jeremy Champion, Brooke Champion, Jessica Bean, Jennifer Cantrell, Jon Ziegler, and Lindsey Beckham; and four great-grandchildren, Josilyn Beckham, Ava Champion, Caroline Cantrell, and Nora Ziegler. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Rev. MP Hampton, Johnny, Jack, Leroy, Paul, and Avon Hampton and two sisters, Genell H. Holmes and Lydia (LA) H. Lawing. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 6th, 2015, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7th, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 East Cherokee Street Blacksburg, SC 29702 with Rev. Eric Sellers, Mr. Ashby Pruitt, and Rev. Virgil Hampton officiating. Entombment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. Brandon Champion, Jon Ziegler, Jonathan Cantrell, Josh Beckham, Tim Rape, Donnie Hampton, David Hampton, Danny Hampton will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Homestead Hospice, 3453 Pelham Road Ste. 107, Greenville, SC 29615. The family will be at the residence. The Book of Memories is available at www.gordonmortuary.com.
