Blacksburg -- Betty Jean McDaniel, 73, of 106 South Charleston Street, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Born in Gaffney, Mrs. McDaniel was the wife of the late Harold Dean McDaniel and the daughter of the late Frank and Ruth Parks Lanier. Mrs. McDaniel was a member of Broad River Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She worked in textiles in the pressing department. Mrs. McDaniel is survived a son, Roger McDaniel of Blacksburg; two brothers, Bobby Dean Lanier and Henry (Smokey) Lanier, both of Gaffney; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by a son, Danny Ray McDaniel, a brother, Buford Lanier, and two sisters, Margaret Wells and Helen Scruggs. The family will host a receiving of friends from 7 until 8:30 Friday evening at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2 in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel, with Rev. Eric Nixon officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Jason Driskill, Kevin McDaniel, Roger Childers, Jeremy George, Thomas Starnes, and Keith Manning will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Broad River Baptist Church, 419 West Cherokee Street, Blacksburg, SC 29702. The family will be at the residence.
