Blacksburg -- Carl Edward Pennington, 72, of 530 Rock Springs Road, passed away Sunday, December 23rd, 2012, at his residence. Born in Blacksburg, Mr. Pennington was the husband of Barbara Summitt Pennington of the home and the son of the late Amos Albert and Nina Ruth Crook Pennginton. He retired from textiles and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Pennington is survived by three daughters, Carla Pennington O'Bryan of Blacksburg, Christine Pennington Dysart and husband, Stuart, of Shelby, and Kelly Pennington Warburton and husband, Kevin, of Blacksburg; a sister, Dorothy Smith, of Blacksburg; and two grandchildren, Cannon and Abbie Warburton, of Blacksburg. Mr. Pennington was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William Albert Pennington and J.W. Pennington, and two sisters, Alma Walker and Frances Turner. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00PM at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28th, at 2:00PM at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Welch officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
