Cora Lanier

Blacksburg -- Cora Jane (Granny Jane) Lanier, 97, of 375 Dye Road, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010 while surrounded by her family. Born in York, Mrs. Lanier was the wife of the late Mack L. Bell, and the daughter of the late Samuel and Florence Elizabeth Ramsey Lanier. Granny Jane loved quilting, sewing, and cooking. She was a faithful member of Christian Fellowship Church and retired from textiles. She is survived by a son, Cecil Bell of Blacksburg; five daughters, Elizabeth B. Estes of Blacksburg, Shirley B. Hardin of Smyrna, Betty B. Roach and husband, L.T., of Piedmont, SC, Patricia B. Ligon and husband, Buddy, of Blacksburg, and Brenda L. Earls and husband, Lucky, of Blacksburg; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lanier was preceded in death by two sons, James (Shorty) Bell and Raymond Bell; four brothers, Obie, Luther (Sun), Jim, and Mack Lanier; and two sisters, Mabel Ramsey and Hattie Mae Earls. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 7:30 at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 3 PM at Christian Fellowship Church, with Rev. Willie Lanier, Rev. Gregg Martin, and Rev. Betty Gentry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Joshua Hardin, Eddie Hardin, Scott Bell, Michael Bell, John Cobb, Chad Ramsey, Jimmy Hardin, Tommy Lanier, and Lee Peterson will serve as pallbearers. Memorials in Mrs. Lanier's memory may be made to Christian Fellowship Church Missions Fund, 516 Peeler Road, Blacksburg, SC 29702. The family will be at the residence.
