Blacksburg -- Eileen Varian Shafer, 59, of 170 Lona Road, passed away Monday, December 12th, 2011, at her residence. Born in New Jersey, Mrs. Shafer was the wife of Richard Dula of the home and the daughter of the late James Edward Varian, Sr., and Jesse Margaret Callahan Varian. Mrs. Shafer was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the AMVETS. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Shafer is survived by two sons, Daniel Shafer of the home and Greg Shafer of Gastonia; a step-son, Randy Dula, of Denver, NC; a daughter, Faith Routhier, of Lincolnton, NC; and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Shafer was preceded in death by her parents, a step-son, Richard Lee Dula, Jr., and a brother, James Edward Varian Jr. Memorial services for Mrs. Shafer will be held Sunday, December 18th, 2011, at 3:00pm in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev.
