George Harry Wilkins

Blacksburg -- George Harry Wilkins, Sr., 91, of 128 Temple Lane, passed away Thursday, September 24th, 2020, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Blacksburg, he was the widower of Sallie Turner Wilkins and the son of the late Talmadge Dewitt Wilkins Sr. and Pearl Simmons Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins retired from Burton-Dixie Corporation with 32 years of service. He then started his own business, George Wilkins Company, and retired after 40 years. He was a lifelong member of St. John United Methodist Church. He was a Mason for over 60 years. Mr. Wilkins is survived by four sons, George H. Wilkins, Jr., Joel Bruce Wilkins Sr., Philip Charles Wilkins, and Stephen Robert Wilkins, 14 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sallie Wilkins Hambright, and his grandson, Philip Wilkins, Jr. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, September 27th, 2020, at 1:30 pm at Mountain View Cemetery, 101 Mountain View Drive, Blacksburg, South Carolina 29702 with Rev. Vernon Craig officiating. Visitation with friends will follow the service at the cemetery. Grandsons will be pallbearers: Mark Wilkins, Paul Wilkins, Joel Bruce Wilkins, Peter Wilkins, Matthew Hambright, Drew Hambright, and Harrison Wilkins. Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church General Fund, PO Box 703, Blacksburg, SC 29702 or Buford Street United Methodist Church, 113 West Buford Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
