Homer Shaffer

Blacksburg -- Homer Jacob Shaffer, 83, of 1064 Caldwell Road, passed away Friday, July 15th, 2016, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born in Pennsylvania, he was the husband of Loreta Miller Shaffer for almost 61 years and the son of the late Charles Smith Shaffer and Elda Harriet Freidline Shaffer. Mr. Shaffer retired from US Steel and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army that served during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shaffer is survived by four daughters, Phyllis Jean Shaffer Pierce of Springdale, PA, Debrah Sue Shaffer Mercer of Moundsville, WV, Joyce Lynn Shaffer Reusche of Charlotte, and Michele Lee Shaffer Holman of Gaffney; one brother, Thomas Charles Shaffer, of Champion, PA; fifteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Shaffer was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson, Lane Thomas Holman. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 18th, 2016, from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 19th, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Ken Lane officiating. Interment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. Travis Pierce, Chad Pierce, Brandon Nance, Jayme Nance, Matthew Reusche, and Joshua Reusche will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family will be at the residence.
