James Broome

Blacksburg -- Melvin Broome, 74, of 494 Bluebird Lane, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2012, at his home. Born in Blacksburg, Mr. Broome was the widow of Brenda Carrol Owens Broome and the son of the late Robert Nelson and Lois Elizabeth McDaniel Broome. Mr. Broome retired as a mechanic and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Broome is a son, Scott Broome, of Blacksburg; a daughter, Sunday Wright, of Clover; three sisters, JoAnn McDaniel of Anderson, Debbie Martin of Blacksburg, and Cathy Carpenter of Belmont; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Broome was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Lynn Parker. Graveside services for Mr. Broome will be held Saturday, April 27, 2012, at noon at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Eddie Bolin officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside. The family will be at the home of Scott Broome, 474 Bluebird Lane, Blacksburg.
