Blacksburg -- Joe Dean Bell, 82, of 146 Porter Road, passed away Tuesday, September 5th, 2017, at his residence. Born in Hickory Grove, he was the widower of Matril Hughey Bell and the son of the late Robert Lester (Lec) and Addie Martin Bell. Mr. Bell retired from textiles and was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church. He was also a charter member of CKC Fire Department, he loved to garden, and he was an avid NASCAR fan. Mr. Bell is survived by one son, Randy Bell and wife, Sharon, of Blacksburg; one daughter Myra Bell Gilfillan and husband, Kent, of Blacksburg; four granddaughters, Keri Gilfillan Culbertson and husband, Jordan, Kayla Gilfillan, all of Blacksburg, Katie Bell Crawford and husband, Mike, and Tara Osment and husband, John, all of Gaffney; seven great-grandchildren, Samuel Gilfillan, Sawyer Culbertson, Zoey Culbertson, Carlee Mullinax, Peyton Osment, Paisley Osment, and Kaidence Crawford; one brother, Buddy Bell and wife, Aileen, of Blacksburg; and two sisters, Peggy Carr and husband, George, and Margaret Pursley and husband, Sonny, all of Hickory Grove. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Bell was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Bell, and three sisters, Ruth Wright, Louise Cummings, and Hazel Walker. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 7th, 2017, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 8th, 2017, at 3:00 pm at Nazareth Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Billings officiating. Interment will follow at Wisher Cemetery. Robert Bell, Larry Hughey, Anthony Carr, Mike Crawford, Jordan Culbertson, and Kelly Pursley will serve as pallbearers. Members of the CKC Fire Department will be honorary pallbearers.
