Jon Wood

Gaffney -- Jon Zeb Wood, 72, died Monday, January 16, 2017, peacefully at his home on his birthday. He leaves his wife, Sheila of 50 years; his son, Zeb Vance, and his wife, April, his two grandchildren, Zeb Vance III and Averi; his sister, Fronneau Little, (the late John Q. Little), his sister, Becky Wood, his sister, Jackie Cole (the late Jimps Cole), his sister, Charlotte Hartman, his brother, Maynard Wood, and his sister, Lee Jones (Larry Jones). He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Wood, and his mother, Susie Lee Cash Wood. Zeb graduated from Gaffney High School in 1963. Following graduation, he made the decision to honor his country by enlisting in the National Guard and he served from 1966-1972. In addition to his military service, he worked in numerous supervisory roles at various establishments that include Cherokee Finishing, A&P, and Big Star grocery chains. He ended his career working with family at Little’s Service Station, and while there, he established numerous friendships and relationships and ministered to several. Zeb loved the Lord, was an avid reader of the Bible, and he was a member of The Way of the Cross in Shelby, N.C. Zeb was an exceptional athlete and excelled at golf, boxing, ping pong, and pool. He was carefree and his love of family was paramount in his life. Graveside services will be officiated by Reverend Dale Welch of Rock Springs Baptist Church and will be held at Oakland Cemetery on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. Quay Little, Cole Sanders, Trip Hartman, Tim Hartman, Larry Jones II, and Zeb Wood III will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at his home place, 202 E. Rutledge Avenue, Gaffney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Legion Post 109, P.O.
