Blacksburg -- Lyman Eugene Blanton, 86, of 510 Turner Road, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Born in Earl, NC, Mr. Blanton was the husband of the late Frances Elizabeth Jones Blanton. Mr. Blanton retired as a carpenter foreman from Duke Energy, served in Navy in WWII, and was a member of New Heights Baptist Church. He was also a Mason and was a member of the Gaffney Elks Lodge. Surviving Mr. Blanton is a son, Dr. Bruce Blanton and wife, Rita, of Fayetteville, NC and three grandchildren, Jayci Blanton of Gaffney, Sgt. First Class Kris Barnette of Dahlonega, GA, and Angel Blanton Roach and husband, Chris, of Blacksburg. In addition to his wife, Mr. Blanton was preceded in death by a son, Terry Blanton and a brother, James Blanton. The family will receive friends Friday, November 27, 2009, from 1 until 2:15 at New Heights Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 with Rev. Sidney Norton officiating.
