Mabel Pruett

Blacksburg -- Mabel Batchler Pruett, 99, of Blacksburg, passed away Saturday, January 8th, 2011 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House. Born in Blacksburg, Mrs. Pruett was the widow of Carnell Pruett and the daughter of the late Jacob Crockett "Boss" Batchler and Annie Mae Allison Batchler. She retired as a cloth inspector for Burlington Industries and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she taught the Beginner's Class for 32 years, she also served as G.A. Director, President of the W.M.U. Association, she served as Director of the Senior Citizens Group, and was leader of the Girl Scouts. Also, at 90 years old, Mrs. Pruett would do a weekly program at the Peachtree Centre for the "old folks." Mrs. Pruett is survived by a son, Dr. Bobby G. Moss and wife, Cathy, of Blacksburg; a daughter, Dawne B. Campbell, of Charlotte; a granddaughter, Nina M. Hutchins, and husband, Keith, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and 2 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Pruett was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dr. Bob Campbell, and five brothers, Drayton, J.C., Roland, James, and Roy Batchler. Weather permitting, the family will receive friends Wednesday, January 12, 2011 from 1:00PM - 2:00PM at Hopewell Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00PM with Mr. A.Z. McDaniel and Rev. Terry Lowe officiating. Interment will follow at Frederick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342, or to Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078. The family will be at the residence.
