Grover, NC -- Mae Helen Whiten Stokes, 84, of 212 Linden Street, passed away Monday, October 4th, 2010 at Kings Mountain Hospital. Born in Gaffney, Mrs. Stokes was the wife of the late Charles Allen Stokes and the daughter of the late Robert Douglas (Doug) and Mary Ellen Spencer Whiten. Mrs. Stokes worked as homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith. Surviving Mrs. Stokes are two daughters, Susan Carpenter of Kings Mountain and Vickie Neal of Blacksburg; six sons, Ronnie Stokes of Lawndale, NC, Charles Stokes of Smyrna, Robbie Stokes of Grover, Jimmy Stokes of Grover, Ricky Stokes of Lawndale, NC, and Brady Stokes of Grover; 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Blackwell of Blacksburg and Frances Camp of Grover; and a brother, Billy Whiten of Blacksburg. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 6th, at 2:00pm at Canaan United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Nancy Mugford officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside. Johnny Neal, Jeramy Sheppard, George Carpenter, Ronnie Stokes, Jr., Robert Stokes, and Mark Stokes will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Mae Stokes Funeral Fund, c/o Gordon Mortuary, PO Box 428, Blacksburg, SC 29702. The family will be at the residence.
