Marie Echoles

Gaffney -- Marie McAbee Echoles, 84, of 190 Sizemore Road, passed away Monday, January 27th, 2014, at Novant Health Gaffney Medical Center. Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Horace Lee Echoles and the daughter of the late James Willis McAbee and Viola Elizabeth Peterson McAbee. She worked as a spinner and was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Mrs. Echoles is survived by three sons, Jimmy "Hambone" McAbee, Roger Echoles, and David "Rooster" Echoles, all of Gaffney; three daughters, Dora Hamrick, Joann McAbee, both of Gaffney, and Lisa Mullinax of the home; a brother, W.J. McAbee, of Gaffney; seven grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Echoles was preceded in death by two sons, Theodore and Benjamin Echoles; a daughter, Katie Echoles; three brothers, Leonard, Rochelle, and Loyd McAbee; and four sisters, Sara Mathis, Hattie Franklin, Ruby Lynn McAbee, and Lillie McAbee. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 30th, 2014, from 7:00 pm -9:00 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will he held Friday, January 31st, at 3:00 pm in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Henry Guyton officiating.
