Marion Smith Jr.

Gaffney -- Marion Daniel "Junior" Smith Jr., 73, of 1224 Hamrick Street, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Born in Blacksburg, Mr. Smith was the husband of Ruth Childers Smith of the home and the son of the late Marion Daniel Smith Sr. and Ethel Penny McCullar Smith. Mr. Smith worked in textiles at Musgrove Mills and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by a son, Boyce Larry Childers of Gaffney; two daughters, Cindy Childers of the home and Oma Ree "Reese" Bryson of Gaffney, two brothers, Herbert and Zaine Smith, both of Gaffney; 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by five brothers, Howard, Lawrence, Charlie, Otis, and R.T. Smith; and one sister, Edna Runyans. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:30 Friday, March 27, 2009 at Gordon Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 4 at Blue Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
