Mary Denton

Blacksburg -- Mary Christine Denton, 91, of 102 N. Calles Street, passed away Sunday, June 7th, 2015, at Peachtree Centre. Born in Blacksburg, she was the widow of Jack Denton and the daughter of the late Frank Allison Goodson and Minnie Hughey Goodson. Mrs. Denton retired from textiles and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving Mrs. Denton are two daughters, Sadie Hale and husband, Sidney, of Blacksburg and Sandra Calvert and husband, Robert, of Gaffney; two sisters, Jennie Bolin and Carolyn Mullinax, both of Blacksburg; four grandchildren, Mitchell Calvert, Darla Mellon, Lisa Robin Jennings and Susan Campbell; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great- grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Denton was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert "Kay" Mullinax; three brothers, Frank Junior, Kenneth Eugene and Jack Willard Goodson; and two sisters, Betty Jean McDaniel and Ruby Mae Goodson. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 8th, 2015, from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 9th, 2015, at 4:00 pm in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Phillip Goodson officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Tyler Mellon, Joshua Campbell, Peyton Campbell, Ian Rickett, Cody Yonkoske, Sean Calvert, Danny Goodson, and Adam Yonkoske will serve as pallbearers. The family will be at the residence.
