Gaffney -- Myrtle Elizabeth Byars, 70, of 138 Jefferson Street, passed away Sunday, July 3rd, 2016, at her residence. Born in Union, she was the wife of George Edward Byars and the daughter of the late Joseph Franklin McAbee and Betsy Tramell McAbee. Mrs. Byars retired from textiles and was a member of Johnson Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Byars is survived by a brother, Leonard "Red" McAbee of Arkansas, and a sister, Betty Matthews of Whitmire, SC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Byars was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Leroy McAbee, and two sisters, Dianna Wyatt and Rachel Lewis. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 9th, 2016, from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at Bobby Spencer's Residence, 707 9th Street Gaffney, SC 29340. Memorials may be made to Myrtle Byars Funeral Fund, c/o Gordon Mortuary, PO Box 428, Blacksburg, SC 29702. The family will be at the home of Bobby Spencer, 707 9th Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
