Robert Peterson

Blacksburg -- Robert (Pop) Peterson, 84, of 674 Old Chester Road, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Brookview Nursing Home. Born in Blacksburg, Mr. Peterson was the husband of Kathleen M. (Maw-Maw) Peterson of the home and the son of the late Robert Ben and Nancy Elizabeth Mullinax Peterson. Mr. Peterson retired from textiles, was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of C.K.C. Fire Department, and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Peterson is survived by a son, Wayne Peterson of Blacksburg; a daughter, Kathryn P. Rumfelt of Blacksburg; a special son-in-law, Eddie Gilfillan of Blacksburg; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by a daughter, Jan Gilfillan, and 10 brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 PM Monday evening at Gordon Mortuary. Cryptside services will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 3 PM at Clingman Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the residence. Memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044, or to Interim Hospice, 101 S.
