Ruth Parker

Gaffney -- Ruth Cantrell Parker, 94, of 1434 N. Limestone Street, but formerly of Blacksburg, passed away April 5, 2010 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. Born in Boiling Springs, SC, Mrs. Parker was the wife of the late J.Q. Parker and the daughter of the late Judd and Mammie Mabry Cantrell. She was a retired grocery store cashier and was a member of Draytonville Baptist Church. Surviving Mrs. Parker is a son, Jerry Parker of Blacksburg; two grandchildren, Lori R. Davis of Columbia and Tracey S. Hivley of Gaffney; and two great-granddaughters, Parker and Quincie Hively. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Betty Parker; two brothers, Ralph Cantrell and O.J. Cantrell, Jr.; and two sisters, Emma Lou Bynum and Mary Melton. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 11 AM at Draytonville Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Ivey and Rev. Don Boshell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, c/o Betty Parker Children's Ministry, 105 S. Rutherfordton Street, Blacksburg, SC 29702 or to the Peachtree Centre, 1434 N.
