Gaffney -- Thelma Pauline (Polly) Roark Ellis, 85, of 1434 N. Limestone St., but formerly of 190 Roark Road in Blacksburg, passed away Sunday, November 28th, 2010 at Upstate Carolina Medicial Center. Born in Gaffney, Mrs. Ellis was the widow of John Robert Ellis and the daughter of the late John Sullivan and Lula Rachel Moss Roark. She retired as a record clerk for the Blacksburg Police Department, was a member of the American Legion Auxillary, she was formerly a member of the Business Professional Women's Club, and she also, at one time, worked in advertising for the Blacksburg Times, Gaffney Ledger, and Charlotte Observer. Mrs. Ellis was a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church. Mrs. Ellis is survived by two daughters, Linda Harris and Kathy Beattie, both of Blacksburg; two sons, Johnny Ellis and Robert Keith Ellis, both of Blacksburg; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Amos Pearson. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 from 3:00pm - 4:00pm at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will immediately follow at 4:00pm in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Charles Reynolds and Rev. Jay Clever officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Paran Baptist Church Cemetery. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1886, Gaffney, SC, 29342. The family will be at Linda Harris' residence, 182 Roark Road, Blacksburg.
