Thomas Eaker Obituary

Blacksburg -- Thomas Edward Eaker, 82, of 334 Cherokee Falls Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Inman Healthcare. Born in Blacksburg, Mr. Eaker was the husband of the late Vera White Eaker and the son of the late Belton and Della Wilson Eaker. Mr. Eaker had dedicated his life to the Lord, serving as a Gideon and as a deacon at Cherokee Falls Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, and Temple Baptist Church. Mr. Eaker also delivered Meals on Wheels and was an avid farmer. Surviving Mr. Eaker is a son, Roger Eaker and wife, Kim, of Inman; a brother, Leland Eaker of Blacksburg; 2 grandchildren, Madia Staton and husband, Jimmy, and Mitchell Eaker and wife, Katie, all of Inman; 2 great-grandchildren, Madison and Riley Staton; and 2 step-grandchildren, Kayla and Ashlee Fort. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Eaker was preceded in death by a great-grandson, A.J. Staton. The family will host a receiving of friends from 6 until 8 Friday evening at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel, with Rev. Richard Brown, Rev. Scott Kierstead and Mr. Mitchell Eaker officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342.
