Thurman Henson

Blacksburg -- Thurman Henry "Bobby" Henson Jr., 76, of Blacksburg, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 31st, 2010 at his residence. Born in Woodruff, Mr. Henson was the wife of Shirley Henson of the home and the son of the late Thurman Henry Henson Sr. and the late Mozelle Navy Henson. He retired from textiles and was a member of Broad River Baptist Church. Mr. Henson served his country in Korea with the United States Army. He was a life member of the VFW, he was a member of the American Legion, and was a Disabled American Veteran. In addition to his wife, Mr. Henson is survived by two step-sons, Calvin Wylie of the home and Roger Wylie of Blacksburg; two step-daughters, Linda Lavender of Gaffney and Donna Moses of Smyrna; a brother, David Burnette Henson of Kings Mountain; 10 step-grandchildren and 7 great-step-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 until 8:30 PM at Gordon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 4 PM at Broad River Baptist Church, with Rev. Eric Nixon and Rev. Gregg Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. Roger Dean Wylie, Michael Wylie, Gary Lee Horn, Jordan Wylie, Preston Wylie, and Austin Wylie will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 101 S. John Street, Suite M., Blacksburg, SC 29702. The family will be at the residence. The Book of Memories is available at www.gordonmortuary.com.
