James Scruggs

James Yarboro “Jimmy” Scruggs, Jr., 89, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Harbor Chase Memory Care in Rock Hill. A native of Rock Hill, Jimmy was born July 6, 1923 son of the late James Yarboro Scruggs, Sr. and the late Cecil Frances Fewell Scruggs. His memory will remain with us as a true southern gentleman. He was retired from the F.B.I. as a Civil Service Investigator and U.S. Army veteran having spent time in Europe during W.W. II. Jimmy was a lifetime member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and elder. He was an honorary member of the Kiwanis Club where he was actively involved and served as treasurer for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Cauthen Scruggs. He is survived by his three daughters Cecil Fitcher of Rock Hill, SC, Ruth Clark of Waxhaw, NC and Virginia Hargett of Rock Hill, SC; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will be held Thursday at 3:00pm at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church with Reverend John O’Kain and Rev Mary Katherine Robinson officiating. The family will receive friends at 818 Eden Terrace in Rock Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, 421 Oakland Avenue, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
