J. Beatrice “Bea” Henderson Purvis, 72, wife of David M. Purvis, Sr., died Sunday, April 16, 2017, at NHC Healthcare. Born October 21, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Arthur Henderson, Jr. and the late Mildred Gwendolyn Jones Henderson. She was a member of Wise Drive Church of the Nazarene and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired hairdresser and also retired from Martin Color-Fi. Survivors include two sons, David Murray “Ray” Purvis, Jr. (Teresa) and Van Purvis (Regina) ; a daughter, Allison Paige Purvis (Ron); five grandchildren, Devin Purvis, Mary Elease Purvis, Leslie Baker, Kendall Privett, and Stephanie Scurry; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell Purvis and Callie Rae Purvis; two sisters, Sara Benenhaley (Dean) and Tara Conyers (Gerald); two brothers, O.G. “Roddy” Henderson and Samuel Arthur “Sandy” Henderson; a special sister, Mary Lee Thompson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday at Wise Drive Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Sammy Geddings officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Conyers, Ashley Henderson, David Wilson, Ronnie Dennis, Devin Purvis, and Chris Merritt. Honorary pallbearers will be Rod Henderson, Brent Henderson, and Allen Henderson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 707 Cardinal Dr. Memorials may be made to Wise Drive Church of the Nazarene, 302 N. Wise Dr., Sumter, SC 29150. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
